Take Memories, Leave Only Hoof Prints

Learn more about Rio Grande Stables and our commitment to our guests.

Rio Grande Stables was founded by Linda Walker in 1991, when we began guiding trail rides and packing for river trips.

We generally operate from about Memorial Day through Labor Day, although exact dates vary widely from year to year. Our rides traverse trails in Carson National Forest, Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, and on private land.

Every year we assist Far Flung Adventures on their trips through Rio Grande Gorge by packing boats and other equipment to a river put-in point that is inaccessible by motor vehicle.

We have proudly bred, raised, and trained our own horses for over 30 years, and each year specially selected members of our riding string travel from our year-round home base in Terlingua, TX to Taos to provide safe and enjoyable rides for our clients.

In addition to our great four-legged clan, we also have a wonderful two-legged family of exceptional guides. Every one of our guides holds a Wilderness First Aid certification, has many hours of training and experience in the saddle, and is knowledgeable about the areas where we ride.

Here at Rio Grande Stables we want to provide the quality experiences that will make up a lifetime of memories.
